Pip Blom, Wolf & Moon, Sofie Winterson, Cinnaman, Lien, Bea 1991, Chagall, Lex Empress, BeauDamian, Iguana Death Cult, Volition Immanent, Stallion’s Stud, Reaubeau, Tera Kora and Judy Blank are the names of the Dutch artists who will perform under the flag of New Dutch Wave during the renowned South by Southwest festival (SXSW) in Austin (USA).
SXSW is an annual conference for music, tech, design and film. The festival is seen as the most important showcase festival in the world for the music industry. Since 1987 SXSW has received world stars as Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Jay-Z, John Mayer and Kanye West.
In addition to the Dutch artists who perform, important parties from the music industry are also well represented. Well-known ‘brands’ such as Paradiso, Run the Trap and Red Light Radio organize various showcases during the festival.
SXSW is the place to be for music programmers
‘For a music programmer, SXSW is a mecca for discovering new bands and artists.
With more than 2000 acts from more than 60 countries, there is more inspiration than at any festival. It is therefore an absolute honor for Paradiso to contribute to the official programming of this leading festival by curating an evening in the New Dutch Wave house.
It gives us the opportunity to give artists we believe in a place on a world stage, to help them further in their career. “ Max van Bossé, music programmer Paradiso.
Music as an export product
Marcel Albers of Dutch Music Export indicates that through their export policy they want to bring Dutch artists as an export product to the attention of the International audience and industry, during important global festivals such as SXSW.
‘We do this for Dutch artists who are selected, by supporting them during the festival as broadly as possible, we help them for instance with their international plans and looking for a broader network abroad.
We also support Dutch music professionals with making contacts and searching for foreign partners and opportunities. Of course we also see the great opportunities for young upcoming DJs and producers in the dance industry, where the Netherlands is a big and prominent player.
All the more reason to support Run The Trap and Red Light Radio during their showcases at SXSW 2019. ‘
SXSW has been designated as a strategic Festival/conference by the Dutch government. Every year more than two hundred Dutch companies, creatives and artists go to SXSW to spot the latest trends, get inspiration, generate business and give performances.
For the past three years, the Dutch participants have been clustered under the flag of New Dutch Wave, with the aim to show what the Netherlands has to offer when it comes to creativity, design, music and innovation.
The festival will be held from 7 to 18 March in Austin, Texas. The Dutch acts can be seen from 11 to 14 March in the New Dutch Wave house.
